Spot Sampling in Service Reservoirs to Asses Water Quality
Zoe joined us for a fascinating discussion on spot sampling in service reservoirs, a dive into how she and her team, in collaboration with Panton McLeod, used an ROV to assess water quality, validate hydraulic modelling, and gather insights that are already shaping long-term strategies.
The episode explores:
- How ROV technology was used to carry out chlorine and bacteriological sampling at different depths and times of day
- Insights into reservoir turnover, chlorine demand, and water quality distribution
- Why this methodology is a valuable tool for validating hydraulic models and informing long-term maintenance strategy

Underwater Skimming of Slow Sand Filters
Slow sand filtration has long been valued for being low-energy, chemical-free, and driven by natural processes. But it's also been limited by downtime and manual maintenance.
In this session, Michael will share how the SandSCAPE project is using robotic innovation to modernise slow sand filtration. With funding from Ofwat, the team is deploying underwater cleaning robots to reduce operational interruptions, improve microbiological recovery times, and significantly cut waste.

TWS Cleaning and Inspection Programme
A major success story that’s delivering real results for water quality, faster than anyone expected. The TWS Cleaning & Inspection Programme 24-25.
• 632 inspections and cleans completed
• 5-year plan delivered nearly 2 years early
• A new minor works repair programme turning ideas into action on the ground
This is progress in action, and a powerful example of what’s possible when teams align around a shared goal. Read more here.
